This article recounts the experience of conducting a census of population and employment, as a task related to the process Genoy community lives in defense of their territory and their right to remain community. It responds to the internal needs of the community, a fact that marks and defines the process forward.
The census was carried out with the use of social mapping as a tool, because it was making him a scene of collective construction of knowledge, from gathering and investigation of the complex field of relations which is the territory, from the unique experience of each and one each to go, together, shaping the ways by which they intend to travel.
The experience of taking the census was that the community began to familiarize yourself with a design methodology that departs from how and methodogies conventionally planned. Maps were constructed to mark the path that signals the territory and, together, conducted the census in a process of encounter and appropriation dynamics.
